I have watched over and over again how many believers that truly have a heart for God fall into the trap of the "religious spirit." It looks something like this: these individuals feel the need to be the "protectors" of holiness and righteousness, so they begin identifying anything that's in a person's life that they don't feel looks "right" to them. They then begin alienating those people and others like them. Therefore, condemnation falls on the ones being examined, and bitterness and anger take root in the those who have charged themselves with policing morals. The scripture does say when a brother is overtaken by a fault, go to him; however, make sure the plank is out of our eyes first. The days of sanctioning bitterness, anger, and hostility towards other, all under the guise of protecting holiness, have to end.
